Reading some of these reviews made me quite upset, all of the ones saying the show was terrible sounded exactly like this “I grew up watching the movie and was so disappointed that the show was nothing like it, it's just some modern cheap YA teenage drama, everything is too modern it’s infuriating and the acting is horrible, blah blah blah” But while reading these I’ve realized that the point completely went over their head.
The show does take a more modern take on the movie, which honestly makes sense, think about it. It’s years in the future so of course it won’t look the same. The acting is perfect since it’s supposed to embody naive, cocky teenagers who think they can take on the world. The lighthearted banter was a great touch because, as I mentioned, the characters don’t take their environment seriously which is why they always find themselves in bad scenarios. I loved the show to death and honestly think that it's perfect for all ages over I’d say 11. I think most of the bad reviews just couldn’t accept that the show was going to be different. Honestly, if you're going to start the show while you've already seen the movie, don’t expect it to be similar, because it’s not. It’s its own series and most should just give it time to grow.
Also to anyone mad because there are “Too many gay characters” that's just ridiculous. For years love stories have only been centered around men and women and now that we’re finally getting representation, shows get attacked for being “Woke” or “trying too hard to be inclusive” but honestly that’s just ridiculous. *SPOILERS* Kit and Jade’s love story is so raw and down to earth that it’s honestly one of the only times lesbians were really well represented. Though I do wish they would have somewhat brought up the kiss in the first episode because they never talk about it lol. I think it’s really bold to compare their relationship to Sorsha and Mad Martigan’s relationship because personally, I find that they had absolutely no chemistry. Throughout the movie, the only thing that made them somewhat have feelings for one another was the fact that Mads thought she was beautiful and then confessed under the effects of a love potion. While on the other hand, throughout the whole show Kit and Jade’s affection for one another depends on trust and love and I find their growth a lot more interesting. *END OF SPOILERS*
More people should give more than just the two first episodes a chance and really watch the whole thing through. It is amazingly written and I loved every second of it. Go check out Willow!!
