Reading some of these reviews made me quite upset, all of the ones saying the show was terrible sounded exactly like this โI grew up watching the movie and was so disappointed that the show was nothing like it, it's just some modern cheap YA teenage drama, everything is too modern itโs infuriating and the acting is horrible, blah blah blahโ But while reading these Iโve realized that the point completely went over their head.
The show does take a more modern take on the movie, which honestly makes sense, think about it. Itโs years in the future so of course it wonโt look the same. The acting is perfect since itโs supposed to embody naive, cocky teenagers who think they can take on the world. The lighthearted banter was a great touch because, as I mentioned, the characters donโt take their environment seriously which is why they always find themselves in bad scenarios. I loved the show to death and honestly think that it's perfect for all ages over Iโd say 11. I think most of the bad reviews just couldnโt accept that the show was going to be different. Honestly, if you're going to start the show while you've already seen the movie, donโt expect it to be similar, because itโs not. Itโs its own series and most should just give it time to grow.
Also to anyone mad because there are โToo many gay charactersโ that's just ridiculous. For years love stories have only been centered around men and women and now that weโre finally getting representation, shows get attacked for being โWokeโ or โtrying too hard to be inclusiveโ but honestly thatโs just ridiculous. *SPOILERS* Kit and Jadeโs love story is so raw and down to earth that itโs honestly one of the only times lesbians were really well represented. Though I do wish they would have somewhat brought up the kiss in the first episode because they never talk about it lol. I think itโs really bold to compare their relationship to Sorsha and Mad Martiganโs relationship because personally, I find that they had absolutely no chemistry. Throughout the movie, the only thing that made them somewhat have feelings for one another was the fact that Mads thought she was beautiful and then confessed under the effects of a love potion. While on the other hand, throughout the whole show Kit and Jadeโs affection for one another depends on trust and love and I find their growth a lot more interesting. *END OF SPOILERS*
More people should give more than just the two first episodes a chance and really watch the whole thing through. It is amazingly written and I loved every second of it. Go check out Willow!!
