i believe it's irresponsible to review this as if it were meant to be a "normal" movie. this is a big-screen adaptation of a video game, and thus merits exception from being treated at face value. as other reviews may mention, there is certainly a bit of confusing plot progression and character development. these are tertiary additions to the core of this movie, and worth treating less importantly as such. a framework exists for these characters to interact with one another, and that's enough. the core of mortal kombat is, and has always been, over-the-top and ultra-gory violence. the movie absolutely delivers on this. it is a faithful live-action portrayal of these classic video game characters fighting in their video game. if you're an MK fan you will recognize many direct references. again, at face value, they can be a little corny or whatever - but as a direct homage to the source material, it's all perfect. curiously, there's a gratuitous amount of swearing. it didn't affect my enjoyment of the movie, but i found it a little strange (funny). bonus points for kano's dialogue lol. i hope they make multiple sequels.

this movie is an artistic masterpiece.

unequivocally broken. avoid at all costs. it's like the worst parts of fallout 76, diablo 3 auction house, oblivion horse armor, no man's sky 1.0, the division 1.0, destiny 1.0, destiny 2, and ted faro fused together to birth this monstrosity. seriously, just go replay borderlands 2

a masterfully crafted story that isn't afraid to dangle your expectations in front of you before curb-stomping them into dust. waiting to play NG+ because my soul needs to rest. (spoilers??) for those of you expecting anything happier, anything more uplifting: remember, the world is doomed as a result of TLOU1 anyway. the point is that there IS no hope. this is how things play out as a result.
