Highly recommend this movie, based on a chapter from the book Team of Rivals. The acting is superb --Daniel Day-Lewis, David Strathairn, Sally Fields and Tommy Lee Jones are especially good in an all-around exceptional cast. The direction and the recreation of the time period are top notch. It's also a great history lesson and an intriguing look at Abraham Lincoln, who I find to be one of the most fascinating people who ever lived. This shows him as a man who is first and foremost a politician and not the plaster saint that many people think of him as -- or the demon that others see. He was a man born into poverty who, mostly self-educated, used determination, intellect, force of will, and not a little deceit and guile to preside over the most tumultuous time in American history. I've watched this movie many times and find new things to enjoy every time.
