Firstly, I hate serial books that don’t resolve a story. The plot in this book involves the fate of 3 lost boys, with 2 bodies found. Many pages are devoted to interviews leading nowhere, then the disposition of the 3rd is suddenly revealed, but not due to discovery or discernment by the detective! The second plot is never resolved, merely suggested, with a teaser to make one read the next book. Nope. One more plot is opened up in the last few pages, in case the other doesn’t hook you. Nope again. The characters lack depth, and the dialog seems mundane.

I imagine Grisham told his editor he had three books that did not pan put to be novels, and the editor said “ publish them any way, your fans will buy anything!” You will discover the difference between a story ending and a story stopping.

Got halfway through it, found myself reading only to see if something happens. No characters resonated with me, or my life. I will muscle through a book if I am discovering something, or experiencing an emotion other than tedium. Like this author in prior books.
