On March 15, 2023, a close friend invited me to the premiere of the movie Martyr or Murderer. It was directed by Darryl Yap.
According to Imee Marcos' narration, the movie covers the events that occurred between former President Ferdinand Marcos' death and that of Ninoy Aquino. The movie makes a claim to historical accuracy. They offered carefully chosen excerpts of journalist interviews, quotes from the late President Cory Aquino, and other materials that suggested Ninoy Aquino was involved in communist efforts in the nation at the time.
Initially, Ferdinand, Imelda, and Ninoy were involved in a love triangle. When they were teenagers, it was something of a celebration. beginning their professions and having political aspirations. A story was developed in the movie.
as the narrative develops. After Ninoy Aquino's death, the movie got more intense. Imelda and Ninoy had a scene dialogue before Ninoy passed away. The Marcoses sent Ninoy to America for his heart operation, so how can they be held accountable for his passing? The movie implied that Ninoy Aquino's death was either a staged suicide or that someone had murdered him because so many people were against him.
The Marcoses expressed considerable concern and worry that they may be held responsible for Ninoy's passing. The events of the EDSA people power revolution are then soon referenced in the narrative. After Cory's victory, the Marcoses were exiled to Hawaii.
Between scenes, they highlighted Ferdinand Marcos' failing health, which annoyed Imee because his father was more concerned with serving the nation than with taking a break from his position of political power.
With the exception of Imee Marcos, who was residing in Morocco at the time, the movie finished with an emotional scene showing Ferdinand Marcos's passing away in a hospital with his children. Hearing her father's final words on the phone, all she could do was cry.
The film highlighted the Marcoses' compassionate side. the hidden narratives in the media.
The phone call between Bongbong and Imee Marcos, which was left unfinished at the end credits, claimed that Leni Robredo had cheated during her 2016 campaign for vice president. The camera then turned to a picture of Noynoy Aquino's portrait taken during his presidency.
I was reminded that propaganda is propaganda toward the movie's conclusion.
The movie contains a few elements that I found to be quite unsettling. The comedic relief is provided by Lucy and Biday (the loyal maids of the Marcoses). They portrayed the Marcoses fans' unwavering loyalty. Biday and Lucy almost have an idiotic, humorous appearance. similar to how the Marcoses are to every Filipino.
As I am not a historian, I shall concentrate on the film's technical aspects.
7/10 for originality
7/10 for creativity
Plot 6/10
Pacing and Organization: 7/10
Characters: 7.0/10
8/10 for cinematography

The movie itself is excellent. Darryl Yap is a master at telling stories. It was a fantasy that seemed almost plausible.
