I was really looking forward to this production. However it felt lacklustre, in terms of performance and direction. Very little chemistry on view between the cast. Some audience members who came to it new, were puzzled, and for me it simply stripped a really excellent original piece of any magic...and not sure why...I would hate to think it's because audiences today prefer a huffy, aloof and vaguely agitated Stella, to the cool sophisticated woman comfortable in her space in the world of the film. Too much was missed out, and nothing put in to bring new magic. It was always going to be hard to live up to the film, but this production did seem to have everything going for it. Bill Forsyth where was your affectionate light touch gently covering real people and emotions. I had to leave at five mins into the second half after a bizarre exchange about how Gordon and Stella were not married...love Island seemed to be on the cards. Sad sad sad.
