The book actually describes the varies analysis of the CMB to determine many answers of the universe. I have been following the WMAP project from it's beginning in the '90s. Culminating in the design and manufacture of a satellite to orbit the Sun for 10 years, measuring the CMB to a precision never before accomplished. The analysis will continue for years come, and even more exciting, is a new satellite capable of even higher resolution to be launched in the near future.
