I dont understand how critics have given this show even average ratings. Our cinematic world has grown obese on the fat of super hero, drama, and typical action. Few and far in between are budgets turned towards fantasy. Sci fi even jas higher traction these days.
But at the turn of aug. 30th two great fantasy tales with a unique spirit have appeared. And I for one and very happy to see them.
Carnival row may be a bit predictable at time, but it posseses artistic reflections of wondeful value. The take on the world of the fae is more true to the dark mythos of samhain lore than most modern portrayals allow, yet this show also brings this story to life alongside a holmes styled london aspect
There are touches of familiarity in the world presented that blend so much folktale that I was entertained full through will the world building. From lovecraft to celtic tales and even greek myth many different worlds collide herein.
And i know this show can become so much greater than it already is. So many tales could be told. Stories of the Pact nation, the comings of the new harsh reality of the burg, and etc.
And there definately is room to grow. I loved the costuming, but at times some puck felt less believable. Some writing could have been improved with regards to a few side characters, but for the most part the characters were very believable. And to be honest i feel that any tv series needs to occasionally lighten the atmosphere with comedy. Carnival row does lighten the atmosphere from time to time with glimpses of the fae world, but for the most part it is somewhat claustraphobically stuffed into small segments of the world, i.e. the row. It very much has room to, and should grow.
I loved this show. And i think with future seasons it will easily develop into something even more drawing. We need more stories like this.
