A very real depiction of the type of debauchery and cruelty and strangeness of hollywood especially in the 1920’s and 30’s, albeit it is very done up, satirized and often even glorified throughout the film. I’ve seen other reviews of people saying there was no plot and I can’t but think that these people didn’t have enough patience or are too prudish or ignorant of history and left halfway through because there is a plot, it’s a story about what hollywood does to you from three different and unique perspectives: 1. The aging actor whose star has waned. 2. The budding starlet who is willing to do anything to be famous (literally). 3. The studio executive who will do and say anything to get his movie made. All this with a romantic subplot that ends in tragedy. I do have to admit, while wrapping up this very long review, the absurdity and gore and nudity are fairly egregious throughout so if that’s not for you then probably steer clear but if you don’t mind and just like a good story then definitely check it out and try not to let the aforementioned vices blind you to the story points. 8/10 fairly good
