Look if you actually listen to Melanie 90% of her songs have adult themes so people who miss the “cutesy” side of things didn’t bother to listen to most of the lyrics. The album Crybaby was about the character’s childhood, K-12 growing up and learning as she got older and Portals is about the lessons she’s taking with her into whatever awaits after her life is over. Personally Portals is my favorite album as while yes its more “adult”(whatever that means) it feels like she’s now talking about how she feels currently versus how she felt in the past. ALL HER SONGS ARE ADULT WITH DARK UNDERTONES. Give the album a shot and go into it with the idea of transitioning and moving on with your life instead of looking at things at surface level.
