Even in 2021, the first time I started playing Destiny 1. This expansion really checked all of the boxes and it outdid itself. I was overleveled for the majority of The Taken King campaign, but that did not mean it wasn't a pushover. Enemies were still aggressive, hit hard, and moved in a sense that there was a strategist planning their moves. The campaign truly carried a lot of weight in the sense that there are a lot of emotions throughout the missions and you have to prove yourself at every turn to Oryx, the Taken King, and then after every trial and enemy Oryx has thrown at you you face him and defeat him, before he Takes himself and leaves you while leaving his sword, Willbreaker in the process. After you have completed the mission to plant patrol beacons around the Dreadnaught, that's when the majority of the TTK campaign becomes available, including the quest to reforge Willbreaker into an exotic sword of your choosing: the arc sword Bolt Caster, the solar sword Raze Lighter, or the void sword Dark Drinker. Overall this expansion restored Destiny and elevated it above and beyond it's previous standing point. Did I mention TTK expansion brought new subclasses for every class, allowing every class to have a solar, arc, and void subclass? However there are a few downfalls. The raid: King's Fall, while being held as the best raid in Destiny and even better than all of Destiny 2's raids by some members of the community, has some shortcomings. 1, while the raid is the longest in Destiny 1 and perhaps Destiny 2 as well, being long means you have to dedicate a large chunk of time to complete the raid which for some is a problem. 2, the loot in the raid is definitely the worst of all Destiny 1 raids as the weapons lacked that power and uniqueness that the other raids' weapons had, and the armor was average compared to the other raids' armor if not a bit weaker. The other issue in the raid is a bit opinionated, but the best part of the raid is the first half of the raid where there are a lot of cool mechanics and some luck involved, and the last half a bit boring with a large portion of the time being spent with people standing on plates, and the Oryx bossfight takes a minimum of 4 phases or cycles to defeat, while every other boss in the game, patrol, strike or raid boss can all be defeated in 1 phase or cycle. Some may say that it only makes the raid better if the boss can't die instantly and takes a while to kill, but for others they simply wish for the raid to be over at that point. To wrap it up, This expansion is an amazing expansion and definitly is an S-tier expansion.
