Not too many people can relate a story of a difficult youth with such succinct sweetness, yet clear straightforwardness as Amichai Heppner can. He remembers details of their hiding place during the Holocaust in rural Holland, where a kindly farmer hid the whole family for a umber of years in a chicken house. In spite of the cruel hardships he experienced as a young boy, the positive and at times funny aspects shine through. The stories are supported by his own childhood drawings which he miraculously managed to save. No doubt this book, full of natural resilience will make a big impact on any reader, old and young alike. A heart warming experience indeed.
