As a life-long Jesus follower of 76 years, now, I cannot recommend this book any higher! Having had a life saturated in sermons, devotionals, exposure to almost all the major Christian denominations--every conceivable recipe for the minutiae of a life that would be pleasing to GOD--I came to De Caussade's work, "The Sacrament of the Present Moment" two years ago. This was a deeply troubling juncture of personal, emotional and spiritual events for me.
At that point "Providence" brought to me the two most important writers of my 74 years of following Jesus. The first was a contemporary of mine, a Franciscan priest, Brennan Manning, specifically through his work, "All is Grace" (a must read).
The second author was French Jesuit Priest of ages past, Jean-Paul de Caussade, "Abandonment to Divine Providence." My life has TRULY never been the same. I find my daily reading the translation of his work to be most fresh and enriching, such that I feast on almost one sentence at a time--so very stimulating and inspired that I find I must capture phrases in my journal to revisit for comfort and encouragement.
What I find the most valuable is the fact that I am freed from the bonds of having to "perform good enough" in my daily living. Freedom to see GOD, himself, literally at work in every single moment of my day, around, in and through me for His good pleasure. A MUST READ.
