I know I am late to the party in appreciating the epic created by Eiichiro Oda about 26 years ago, but as it is said, better be late than be sorry. I think I am considering myself lucky that, finally, I got my chance to witness this genius of storytelling, and now I know why this is the best-selling manga series of all time.
If you have not guessed yet, I am talking about One Piece.
This legendary manga has been adapted for a live-action series by Netflix, and to say that it is good is an understatement.
Anyone who is into reading manga or seeing anime has most probably heard about it. I too heard about it a long time ago but was not able to make a start seeing the huge amount of manga titles and anime episodes I’d have to cover. For those of you who don’t know, the manga and the anime are still ongoing. But when Netflix announced that they were going to stream a live-action adaptation of this manga, I was very excited to give it a try.
The story till now revolves around a young pirate named Monkey D. Luffy, who is aiming to make a name among the pirates, find the "One Piece," and become the King of the Pirates. He is supported by his crew, which consists of Zoro (who aims to become the greatest swordsman ever, a promise he made to someone special), Nami (who aims to become the only person to draw the map of the world), Sanji (who aims to find the Old Blue), and Usopp (who aims to become the greatest warrior). Every actor has done justice to their roles.
Normally, I don't binge-watch any series to the end. I will watch one or two episodes and then watch another episode after 2–3 days. But this is one of those series that I watched in just two days, though each of its eight episodes has a runtime of almost an hour. I never got bored for a second.
The best thing about this show is that in every episode, you will find new characters joining Luffy's crew, and within the runtime of that episode, you will feel so attached to that new character that you will feel that without them, the show would have been incomplete. Such is the genius storytelling of Eiichiro Oda.
Although I read that manga and anime fans have complained that the show has not included many story arcs of these characters, for a person who has only watched this live-action adaptation, it is just perfect.
I am eagerly looking forward to the second season of this series, and I would recommend that you all give it a try. It is a must-watch.
GUM GUM PISTOLLLLLL.
