The Kashmir files is an integrating film, that presents the only black or white narrative of what happened to 'Kashmiri Pandits' in 1990 in Kashmir without excepting there could be a grey narrative. Its shows how the whole system and even the countrymen failed to bring justice to them, and force them to live as a refuge in their own country.
There were many movies which have been made earlier on Kashmir showing the pathetic state in which currently Kashmiri people live and all the problems that have been faced by them but this movie is a slap on the face of those creators and asking a simple question why the narratives of Kashmiri Pandit has not been shown earlier, why it took 32 years to show their story?
This movie is a reminder that yes you should forgive what happened in the past but never forget what has been happened to you.
Now let's talk about the movie, the movie has many flaws if we talk about it cinematically but it is an emotional journey, the actors have connected them with the characters so well that sometimes it feels that they have gone through that pain, especially Anupam Kher. While watching the movie sometimes you can feel that helplessness, empathy. The last monologue is a little bit stretched and seems hypothetical to connect with the situation in the movie but it connects with the audience as they have gone through the journey of 'Krishna Pandit' and especially after the scene of the mass murder(genocide), the audience feels his aggression and pain which he tries to bring in the monologue.
This movie can be worked as both an eye-opener or mind wash depending upon the intelligence of a person.
In the end, the movie is a must-watch for all Indians irrespective of their caste, creed, and religion, and should feel the pain of those Kashmiri people who lost their life in 1990.
