I understand where some of the 1 star viewers are coming from. In the sense that I cringed several times and at one point considered turning it off to come back to it later. Glad I didnt though.
If you cant stomach sci-fi, in-depth plots, deeper meaning than a plain and predictable script, or comedy being mixed with action and emotion (and a tad of cringe), then this isnt for you.
This film is polarizing. My parents and grandparents would hate it or not finish it yet I laughed and cried. Im still unsure how I feel about it which is why I came here- to see if anyone felt the same.
Just know that not every film is made for you. And not every film is made to be guzzled down by the mainstream consumer who wants a movie where the end can be predicted in the first five minutes and is some variation of every disney or hollywood story ever made.
The point of the film was to seek deeper meaning in life and for so many to miss the deeper meaning of the movie completely is quite ironic. I am convinced that 75% of the 1 star reviews did not finish it, and the 10% of them have a massive ego or swallow their emotions, and the last 15% are over the age of 60 and/or also fell into the initial 75%.
There were several things in that film that could have made any demographic of viewer uncomfortable for one reason or another, but it is not a 1 star film and it did deserve atleast an oscar nomination.
