Starts off as a gritty nod to the noir world of Gotham with a call back to 1970’s comics. And pulls in Bat-fans with story arcs from “Long Halloween” and “Batman: Year One”
Then subtly goes down a long plot with nearly no “life” from any of its characters as we encounter an emo, juvenile Bruce Wayne whose second year Batman seems nearly indestructible.
While the gritty feel and score are things to be desired, a forced plot, slow pacing and weak plot devices steal from this being a great movie more or less a Batman Film.
Take the movie “Seven” and make it slower, less graphic, and less intentional with a worse cast and throw it all into a Batman universe and here we have Matt Reeves’ “The Batman.”
