SPOILER WARNING!!! First half of the book had me on the edge of my seat and I flew through it. That being said the second half took me weeks to get through barely even getting through more than a chapter before getting too bored to continue. I’ve finally just finished it and what I can say is it feels like the second part seemed rushed through and significantly less dark than the first half. The gruesome things Adeline endured during part 1 made me pause at some points to put the book down and process the horrifying details I just read. The shock I had while reading some of the gore filled scenes had me anxiously awaiting the revenge Addie and zade would release on these sick individuals. In my opinion yes revenge was served, but it was not as satisfying as it should have been made to be. I finished the book with an empty feeling of unsatisfaction. Yes the scenes were dark and justice was served but I guess I was just awaiting to be shocked and left with my mouth hung open as I was in the first part of the book. Not to mention I actually found myself skipping through pages and pages of spice scenes to get to the real action. I truly believe if the author focused the same energy into the plot that she does the sex scenes, it would have easily been my top book of 2023.
