{I read the audiobook so the names might not be spelled right}
Wasn't impressive, more then unwholesome
I didn't like the main character much, I did like she was strong and wouldn't give up without a fight aspect to her but that's pretty much it. Maxon was eh, I liked that he took his job seriously as a king should. Aspen was also a meh, not as bad as America in my opinion but still not the best. I like the side characters like Lucy, Mallory, Gabrel, etc.
The story part was not a bit original, cliches have become like a format to a lot of writers to do parodies or a story directly based on the cliche and just another way of telling the story, but in this book, it seems just too bland even with the all so famous princess cliche. It directly reminds me of another book I read which I really liked and compared to that this seems very 'unlikeable'
Surprisingly that seems more original even though it came out years later in an entirely different language but is that really comparing originality? Anyway I'm probably being too harsh and everything is better in the other 2 books but I decided not to read it despite the theory. I'm still wondering if this is an absolute monarchy or a constitutional monarchy.
There are still a lot of things wrong with this book which I'm not gonna touch on. This book is aimed at people like me and I know I'm not gonna like everything but this book still seemed a bit too inappropriate for anyone who is the same age as me.
Either way, I did decide to read Heir to compare it to this book since it introduces a new cast of characters like Eadlyn, Aaron, Camille and etc. I like it a lot better than Selection, I also like Eadlyn a lot more than her mother, America. I haven't read much of this book only to the part she's disqualifying 12 candidates and so far if I compare that to this it's far better but unfortunately, I have a gut feeling she's gonna be in a similar situation like her mother which I don't like at all :(
