this is my favorite movie of all time. It’s mind-bending and reading the theories and lore of the film is insanely fun. For the few people saying the plot is “confusing”, that’s the point. The point of the film is for you to kind of… make up your own plot, I guess. Or theories, rather. Also, if you were one of the people perplexed by this film, I suggest you read Richard Kelly’s (writer and director of Donnie Darko) book called “The Philosophy of Time Travel” as it’s a perfect explanation of the movie. I won’t go too into it, but it discusses the tangent universe, living receivers, and so fourth. When I first started to watch this movie, I was skeptical. It didn’t make sense to me how this film could have such a high honor of being a cult classic; being labeled as one of the greatest movies. By the time I finished it, I was shocked. The film was amazing! I then discovered the lore and confirmed theories about the movie, which made it even more interesting. I invited a good friend of mine over to watch the movie, and the friend was also quite confused at first, but like me, at the end they were starstruck. We love to discuss the film together and we’re going as Frank and Donnie for Halloween. I can’t thank this film enough for how it’s shaped my life since I’ve seen it. It feels personal in a way, like perhaps the movie is a prophecy of your own life. It’s amazing. I’ve seen the film 7 times now and many more times to come. It’s my comfort movie—when I’m bored or upset, I just rewatch it and search up theories online, read a few chapters of “The Philosophy of Time Travel”…and just think. I just take in the movie. Listen to me: you may find the movie weird or confusing at first, but trust me, search up some lore about the film. Rewatch the movie. Watch it AGAIN. I feel that this movie is meant to be rewatched, that’s why it’s considered a cult classic i believe. Overall, please watch Donnie Darko. It will change your life as it did mine.
