Saoirse Ronan delivers an excellent performance but even she cannot save this boring film. The film lacks a complete narrative arc that provides the viewer with a clear origin, journey, and destination. We see the journey element (a young woman fighting her demons of alcohol addiction), but without understanding what initiated her downfall, or what she went on to achieve at the end, the film lacks purpose and the viewer is left being blown around between breezy Orkney scenes and boozy London ones. I was relieved when the credits rolled so I could get on with the rest of my day.
