I have seen Shrek when I was a child, vividly remembering how I bought the 2-disc special edition DVD and enjoying it. I still do, surprisingly.
I will say that this is still a good movie with a charming (no pun intended) protagonist, fun side characters, a memorable villain, and a fantastic opening scene.
My problem, though, is that the third act was weak. The movie did succeed with its first two acts, but the bitterness between Shrek and Fiona is what killed it. It transitioned from fairy tale parody to cliché rom com. But at least I'm a Believer redeemed it.
But, overall, despite a weak third act, Shrek is still a fun movie and it has aged well.
I give it 89%.
