For everyone who’s complaining about having to read the subtitles, I’m here to tell you why he chose to keep it in our native tongue! When the pale skin came and stole our land, they told the people of Hawai’i that we could no longer practice our language (read, write, or speak). This affected our people tremendouslyThis affected our people tremendously. I’ll say only 1/3, maybe less, of Native Hawaiians today can speak fluent Hawaiian and understand it.
I commend him for sharing our story in our native language and hopefully encouraging the youth of Hawai’i to go back to learning their roots.
