I hate video games and I don't generally care for horror films (especially those that involve human murderers, though I'll watch anything Oz Perkins makes and I liked "Us"). I don't watch at all if there are child victims. I didn't want to see FNAF, obviously, but turns out this is honestly the best horror film I've seen in decades. There was a lot of depth and nuance, which I did NOT expect from this film. The animatronics are duly creepy, I definitely want to visit a Freddy Fazbears for the 80s/90s nastalgia, not too much gore but some, the acting was great; even all of the kids were great... the blond ghost boy actor is FANTASTIC. It is a disgrace that no one is talking about him. What is this kid doing next because I'm there already! The main character (security guard, Mike Schmidt) is struggling with drug addiction, but it is presented in such a way that children would not understand what's going on and [slight SPOILERS ahead] he actually realizes what he's been doing and overcomes his problem in order to save his family. I was blown away, my people. There is a cop character who has to face a seriously difficult family issue AND SHE OVERCOMES. The murdered children are able to get their revenge on the man who was basically their cult leader and murderer... but he basically kills himself and they just kind of watch...and the reason everyone is saved is A LITTLE GIRL that they all care about and trust; she leads them each to the right path directly or indirectly...It is freaking perfect. I love this movie.
