Accurate research is paramount when portraying such significant religious figures; to do otherwise is shameful and deeply disrespectful. The film fundamentally misrepresents Mary's character and key biblical events: 1) Core Virtues Ignored: Mother Mary's defining virtues are humility, obedience, and lowliness, which are central to why she was chosen and exalted as the Mother of God. This film fails to capture this essence. 2) Submission to God's Will Misconstrued: The angelic salutation "Hail Mary!" signifies profound reverence. Her response to the Angel Gabriel, "I am the handmaid of the Lord; be it done unto me according to your word," is a testament to her complete submission to God's will. The film seems to miss this critical aspect of her faith. 3) Service to Elizabeth: Upon learning from the Angel Gabriel about her cousin Elizabeth's miraculous pregnancy, Mary hastened to her aid selflessly. The film's portrayal of her being forced or reluctant to go contradicts this beautiful act of service and charity. 4) The Nature of Jesus's Birth: Traditional belief, tied to Mary being conceived without original sin (the Immaculate Conception), holds that she was also free from the curse of labor pains, and the birth of Jesus was miraculous, often described as being like light passing through glass. The film seems to ignore this theological understanding. 5) Character of St. Joseph: The depiction of St. Joseph as a murderer is a shocking and entirely unfounded fabrication that maligns a righteous and pivotal figure in the Holy Family. 6) Perpetual Virginity: A cornerstone belief for many, Mother Mary's perpetual virginity is a significant aspect of her sacred identity that appears to be disregarded in this film. Presenting such a flawed portrayal not only misinforms viewers but also disrespects the deeply held beliefs of millions.
