I love the relaxed atmosphere of Hotcakes. Sometimes, though, depending on how I listen to the album, some songs sound harsh on the ears. Not only are the songs simultaneously peppy, relaxing, and uplifting, but these emotions are mixed well throughout the album in an attempt to attract the listener’s attention and interest. With each band member’s own spark of creativity, Carly Simon and her partners have definitely proved that Hotcakes would be a hit.
This level of creativity definitely also shows up in the cover art, which I also love partly because I feel like the photographs on the outside of the record jacket has inspired me to want to model part of my own kitchen after Carly Simon’s own kitchen. I also envision my future wife wearing a modern version of the white dress that Carly Simon is wearing on the cover. The warm and bright color palette that takes up the cover provides a relaxing atmosphere in contrast to the photograph on the inside of the cover. It is totally unexpected since the retro color scheme along with other aspects of the photograph doesn’t really have much to do with the album’s title yet somehow still matches the outside cover sleeve. These are the reasons why Hotcakes will always remain a product of world-class artistry.
