First off, I will state that I believe the second to last film Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was misunderstood. The original three movies were meant to capture the feeling and tongue-in-cheek nature of the 1930s serial films of the era in which they took place. KOTCS seems to have done the same (the 1950s was all about nuclear this, alien that, hot rods and greased hair, etc.).
This all being said, the Dial of Destiny was a pretty great action-packed "ride". The iconic chase scenes felt more like a Bond film (OK, KOTCS had some ridiculous chase scenes, I'll give you that) and perhaps they were channeling the films of the 60s-70s in giving the film so much of this sort of action.
To keep it simple, the good guys were good, the bad guys were the ones you love to hate, and the whole movie (while not the original IJ films) was a really fun film and worthy of four stars - keeping in mind that I call it five stars if it's a forever classic such as Raiders. Well worth the ticket price, and I'd watch it again.
