Whenever I'm in a reading slump I pick up a Moreno-Garcia book. She never disappoints and Mexican Gothic was haunting and vivid and beautiful and terrifying in all the right ways. Definitely worth a read especially if you're into noir/horror vibes. I love how Garcia shows Mexico and crafts her characters. Her diction is distinct yet accessible and you'll gobble up the book in a few days like me, trust.

Absolutely loved this film. It's wholesome and made me cry because of how it subverts mainstream politics. You have black elegance; black women in the center; black advancement and intelligence. At the same time, this film has been intricately weaved to allow the viewer to more deeply reflect and critique certain aspects of what it portrays.
