Wild Wild Country (2018) ‧ Documentary ‧ 6 episodes.
I read many of the positive reviews of the Documentary, I guess my view is a bit different.
The documentary did little to define the teachings of Rajneesh, there are vague generalities regarding his views of capltalism, individualism and sexuality. If you come looking for Eastern Religious inspiration its not here aside from the unquestioned dedication of his sycophants.
I found myself asking questions of most participants/interviewees:
* Why are there seemingly only duped Americans in the worldwide
following? Besides Sheela, where are his Indian followers in
Oregon?
* Why are attempted murderers portrayed in a positive light?
* Why are the origins of the communes wealth ignored?
* Why were the disturbing aspects of the commune not investigated?
In the end, I found it difficult to align with any of the characters in the film, whether it be Rajneesh, Sheela, the sycophants, the folks from Antelope or the US government, all sides were loathsome to various degrees.
