I’ve always admired Sam Neil. His brave decision to share his life’s loves trials and joys did not fail to further impress upon me his skills with language and people. Loved it

A great start but after some chapters I felt the continuing recount of guilt and resentment wearing. The ending left me feeling frustrated. I gave 3 stars for the information learned about Chinese soldiers in WW2. Others loved it

I learned so much from this gently written book. Esme’s observations wash over the reader, soaking you in the period of history and role of women in late 1800s-1930. Wonderful
