The game gave me the same feeling of freedom that New Vegas gave to me. Every character is killable, you can go wherever you want, the difficulty of enemies isn't scaled to your level (which is a good thing imo) and the game doesn't handhold you if you don't ask it very specifically to. At one point i killed a guy who was supposed to tell me where a scientist was, and the games quest just updated to "welp, guess you'll just have to go looking now". And i loved it. One of the best moments I've ever had in gaming. The game didn't find some excuse to make my choice not matter. It just said "well, you had an option, and you fucked it, now you're on your own". Glorious. I'm hoping The Outer Worlds 2 will be the same, once its at a price i can afford. For now, i'll rebuy this game i played three times in a row years ago while its on sale, and support the company that way.
