Roman society was a diverse one and that should be reflected in the main characters. Just b/c a lot of old, COLOR-STRIPPED white marble statues were "rediscovered" & STOLEN by the English, Germans, French, etc 200 years ago, doesn't justify the repetitive, inaccurate, whitewashed depictions of the most powerful Ancient Hellenes (i.e. 'Greeks'🙄) & Romans. Using the pastiest, coldest, & most colorless English ppl on Earth to portray Ancient Romans JUST b/c they resemble those depigmented, cold, lifeless, white marble statues is inane. And it's unacceptable in 2021. Oh, I haven't forgotten that the ONLY black female main character is depicted as a foreigner and SLAVE & is STILL in a servile position decades after being freed.🙄 The fact that they literally _just_ depicted the MODERN dichotomy of 'powerful whites' & 'black slaves' as existing in the ANCIENT world isn't acceptable in 2021 either.
And to the degenerate who said Livia had no right to RESCUE her ALREADY FREE & wrongfully RE-ENSLAVED best friend from a brothel: Don't complain about 'accuracy' when you're INACCURATE about not being was ILLEGAL for anyone to re-enslave a free Roman citizen w/out cause. Either way it's disturbing that you wanted the tv show to depict a black person staying enslaved, and what's worse, an LEGALLY FREED black person, staying enslaved. You just wanted to publicly spew "it was legal for that time period" excuses for black slavery w/ plausible deniability & no consequences. Period. Just admit it and get off your high horse. And you sound absurd trying to demonize Livia for not only being a powerful woman, but for WIELDING her power to rescue her best friend from slavery, a friend who was already a FREE ROMAN CITIZEN.🙄 Get a grip & stop screeching about a wife advising her own husband. That's NORMAL. And it's what countless women - mothers, sisters, & wives - have ALWAYS done to indirectly gain power they couldn't directly get themselves. Jeff Bezos said all HIS success was due to his now ex-wife Mackenzie. Grow up.
