This is not a comedy, at least not entirely. Instead, it’s a rather unexpected r*pe story. Jane Fonda & Lily Tomlin are great, of course; but the sad, sad story of survival is just that: sad. Still, in between the unhappy moments there is the occasional black-comedy nugget. Plus, how great is Lily Tomlin’s apartment in the movie please? PS You’ll see some 1-star reviews lamenting a boy trying on earrings; if that’s your trigger, then this movie is not for you. You know, because a boy loving earrings is way worse than a woman getting r*ped by her best friend’s then-alcoholic husband.
