I have been waiting for a few months to watch this movie. In fact, I chose to read the book first and found it to be awesomely written by @AngieThomas. The movie was an interesting adaptation of the book. They chose the right characters to convey the essence of the story. I must admit, though, I was kind of disappointed it veered too much from the authentic story line of the book. Carlos character was too tamed and too structurally scripted instead of how he's portrayed in the novel.
The Haley character was made into slightly more of a victim than Starr. The character, Devante, was omitted, which erased the notion that a young black man can be saved from the streets.
The book had me in tears and was overwhelmingly powerful from start to finish. Guess I wanted the movie to do the same.
