It starts off boring and presumptuous, makes a surprising leap to the silly, but then again, the music is bad.
The dialogues manage to avoid being Pinteresque, desiring to reveal less then they ought to, but creating a sense of truant mystery and menace. Add a pinch of modern dancing that is completely out of place, lack of logic and a school complex that strives futilely to be the Overlook Hotel, and what you get is a Billy Wilder like keep-it-out-of-focus-so-we-win-the-Foreign-Film-Award nonsense.
Also, what's the deal with the noisy shoes?! Are we Lee Marvin in Point Blank?!
And the nose bleeding?! Are we funny?
Still, this was emotionally involving, as I pitied the actors.
