If you’re expecting to be frightened in an Insidious 1 kind of way, this is not it.
They went in a very different direction with this one.
I would barely even call this a horror movie, but rather a very touching movie about family, with some horror elements.
I disagree that this was an unnecessary chapter. The overall message of the movie explains how the Lambert’s ending in Insidious 2 was not a healthy one for the family.
I will say the third act, final battle is really odd and rushed. I didn’t even realize it was the final battle until it was over - and I thought to myself, is that it? But it had enough nostalgia pieces and connections and even scenes from the first 2 movies that I’ll give it a pass.
The last 2 scenes of the film were really beautiful, and even the end credits song is fittingly slow, heartfelt, and touching. Almost brought a tear to my eye. Not what you expect from a horror
This movie is an absolute nostalgia kick for Insidious fans, and has a really, in my opinion, insightful message about managing difficult memories.
If you’re 13 years old with a bunch of friends expecting to be screaming in your seats, skip this one. If you have a heart, or literally any investment in this franchise, then this movie is for you.
