It's American Pie! No it's High School Movie! No it's Napoleon Dynamite! No it's Ferris Bueller! No, Breakfast Club! Enjoyable once I could get past all the American high school stereotypes (how many US films are about high school? Go on count em!). I just about handled Jackson getting up on the table to sing, but when the head danced in the corridor (Tom Cruise, Risky Business? Kevin Bacon , Footloose? etc etc) I lost it. I don't like cheese, especially that plastic processed stuff.
It would be interesting to see a version with a British backdrop and American actors! How would the US audience cope? Makes me wonder if the funding was easier to get with a look with which the much larger American audience would instantly feel comfortable.
Inbetweeners and Grange Hill was a much more accurate depiction of my school days but that obviously isn't the point Laurie Nunn had in mind. For me it's not disorienting, just annoying.
That's not to say I won't watch series 2, of course I will! We all want to see him get the girl.
