If you're thinking of watching Invasion expecting it to be an action packed summer blockbuster type, you'll be greatly disappointed and I suggest you move on to something else.
But if you appreciate good acting, exquisite cinematography, big budget special fx and beautifully scored movies, then this could be right up your alley.
The creators of Invasion billed this series as a drama amidst an alien invasion. And this is what you're getting - heavy on the drama, intelligently paced and with characters you care about.
Let's talk about the soundtrack. It's sublime and emotional. The composer is Max Richter who composed the now famous On The Nature of Daylight which has been featured in several films including Denis Villeneuve's Arrival. The music of Invasion is a gem, especially the track called You're Full of Stars which comes on when Shioli Kutsuna's character,Mitsuki Yamato, enters her Tokyo apartment after a day at work. The song is contemplative like the gentle whisper of a lover, long lost.
I've watched the first three episodes of Invasion and awaiting the fourth and final one. I wish there were more because I've become invested in this series. I'm not a fan of made for tv series. Especially sci-fi ones. Most of them feel cheaply made. But Invasion stands out, well for me anyway. It feels like a high-budget movie cut up into small digestible parts.
In my humble opinion, Invasion is a slow burn worth checking out.
