One of the most underrated romantic love stories in cinema. While the film mirrors historical perspectives of the Irish and the Land Run of 1893, the love story that unravels is one of the best. Tom Cruise perfectly captures the unattainable, good-looking, idealistic man who swoons the audience in his early presence of the film. While Nicole Kidman as Shannon also falls for Joseph's strong-willed nature in the beginning, she actually doesn't entirely register her own feelings until much later in the film. The emotional tension that spurs between the two as a result becomes more clear to see and you find yourself rooting for the two to confess their clear desire to be with one and other. Shannon and Joseph's initial dislike of each other fuels the intensity of their connection and the scene in the empty house on that snowy night captures the true illustration of love. They unknowingly stick together through it all and it's a tear-jerker like no other. When indulged in all its capacity, the connection of Shannon and Joseph is utterly magical. The ultimate comfort film!
