Although Night School is a comedy, it actually sends a clear message. In a way, it’s actually creating awareness for dyslexia and dyscalculia. Ted (played by Kevin Hart) was shown as his high school self in the beginning of the film. In the first few scenes, Ted is shown as a failing high school student. In one scene while he was taking a test, the animators of the film did an excellent job visually capturing what dyscalculia & dyslexia must feel like by showing the numbers flying around Ted’s head and becoming overwhelmed. This really helps watchers think about how much of an impact learning disabilities can have on a person, and I’m sure there were some viewers that have learning disabilities that now feel less insecure because this movie creates a funny and positive aura around it.
Fast forward 17 years, the first scene shown is Ted in a sumptuous car, with a good looking business woman as his girlfriend. At first glance it looks like he’s successful, then we find out he’s working retail and hasn’t even been making payments on his car. You can only imagine how it all went downhill from there. Ted proposes to his girlfriend in the store that he had been recently promoted to the owner of, and ends up blowing the place up…literally. Throughout the film more and more trouble comes onto Ted leading him to realize that in order to get a good paying job, he needs to get his GED. It’s ironic how he goes back to the same high school he dropped out of to get his GED.
While Ted is in night school, he tries to cut corners and get the easy way out, but Carrie Carter (his teacher) doesn’t let that slide. Her character is a very dedicated and caring teacher, and Tiffany Hadish played the role perfectly. She helped Ted while under pressure by the principal, and even diagnosed him with his learning disabilities. All of this sets a really good example for teens that may struggle the same way, and not just teens, anybody could have learning disabilities.
Now for the casting I believe it was just perfect, Tiffany and Kevin are two of the best comedians in Hollywood and are complemented by several supporting roles/comedians who create seamless dialogues and scenes. Perfect casting makes the movie even better. The fun in watching the supporting cast is even more. Overall it's a must watch for all Kevin Hart lovers. Most funny, constructive, and positive-messaged movie I ever watched. All behind a wall of good laughter and funny jokes. I highly recommend it!
