Doyle is a clear thinker, and an entrancing storyteller. Who knew that a deep dive into the phenomena, known by many names, but best dubbed “the New Puritans” could be condensed into such a captivating read?
Doyle shines a light into the nooks and crannies of the mind-maze in which we have awoken, and by adept use of wit, personal experience, extensive research, calm analysis, and even sympathy, exposes the root of the rot within western society in a way that leaves the reader feeling informed, strengthened, but also calmed and tempered.
“The New Puritans” may be politically obsolete in a few years, as its author has hoped; but the work itself is one which should be read again and again so that, once we emerge, we do not fall back into the place that we now find ourselves ever again.
