Elden ring is close to being the perfect soul game in my opinion. I have played over 30 hours on pc with keyboard and mouse (thank god for key binding) and i have really enjoyed the design and unforgiving gameplay so far.
That said, here’s a warnings for players that do not know souls game:
Elden ring is not skyrim, you don’t become invincible two hours into the game. Normal enemies will kill you in 2-3 hits and you have to think for every encounters. Choose your fights, block or roll dodge attacks, sneak and backstab ennemis to get a headstart against them.
This is more important than grinding runes and leveling up. Leveling up and finding new equipment helps but learning your adversary attacks and thinking is how you win in this game.
The story telling is also different in Elden ring. Many games will force feed you information from every NPC possible. Elden ring leaves a trail of crumbs that you have to seek and actually pick up and put together to digest.
Talk to NPCs and listen to what they say, find what they talk about and come back to talk to them. Read the item descriptions, they are a source for information on the world.
