I liked it! A good family film. And contrary to popular belief, dingos do bark.
Bill Nighy is a taciturn, stoic man of the bush who has successfully built his sheep station in the Outback. Don’t expect flowery outbursts of emotional speech from this man. Watch and you might catch a slight twitch of the lips when he found something amusing. There’s a typical no nonsense manner in which he builds a rapport with Ridley. This is a man of a previous generation who still ‘dress up’ to go in to town.
As a grieving 12 year old thrust into a totally alien world, Milan Burch handles his role with aplomb. Melton Pell adds an avuncular touch in a harsh environment.
For myself, I would have enjoyed more sheep and actual sheep station life. There’s something about the kelpies rounding up the sheep to bring them in for shearing which I always enjoy. Mending fences was not enough.
