Outstanding movie. It captures the brutality of war, the futility of war, the emotions (of which there are many and extremes of dark & light....) captured all just perfectly. The movie is very clearly done with huge amounts of thought of detail in every single essence. Never gratuitous, but not holding back on the reality. i loved the fact in succinct moments, the film manoeuvres perfectly to the beauty of nature among the horrors of war. And the narratives are just brilliant. "What is this evil...?" as the U.S wade through the Japanese encampment...... what a start to the narrative that is. very very thought provoking. Overall, this movie is simply exceptional. I have seen it a number of times over the years and it never fails to leave an impact, an imprint within. Masterpiece of a movie.
