Well acted action movie based on a historical battle. Very convincing effects and soundtrack that allows the viewer to feel the tension and violence of war. I deducted one star for the glaring omission of Soviet communisms’ omnipresence. The word “comrade” was not used once. Not once. Even the unrealistically likable political officer (commisar) calls the soldiers “brothers”. It sounds like a small thing, but it’s not. To gloss over the hated political officers and Stalins NKVD thugs who struck fear into the common Red Army soldier, is to deny facts and sweep aside the real accomplishment of the average Russian soldier. They fought two deadly forces at the same time - Nazis to their front and the NKVD behind them - and this is really where their strength was, and the glory they earned defeating Hitlers Germany.
