Everyone has those lists of movies and shows which resonate with them the most. Not those which you’d watch repeatedly. Rather those where as soon as the credits come, you turn it off and are set to do something revolutionary! The emboldening ones!
Watching Julie & Julia was an experience in itself. I caught hold of this sweet, if-you-love-food movie while I was waiting for my banana bread to be baked, out here in quarantine. As much as the gastronomic aspect pulled me into it, I was more so intrigued by the sheer narration of two women who set out to do something that brought them joy; with an exceptional support from their partner. The subtlety of it was very endearing. Both worked full time as government secretaries- a rent paying job they couldn’t derive joy from- but found time to do something they loved. And out of that, came out a passion project that they carried out without any greed for the outcome. The end of the movie was rather a realistic one, where the inspired does not meet the inspiration in person but knows her through the sheer love of cooking and a zest for doing something meaningful in life, for themselves. It’s sweet, encouraging, resonating, sometimes crushing and apart from rendering the consequential obsession of getting attached to your passion projects, it additionally also portrays the advent of blogging post World War II.
I solemnly advice you to watch this movie. If not for that “push”, then for the love of food. Bon Appetit!
