A sloppy and disappointing re-imagining of the books that deviates pretty severely from the source material. The series so far has a very amateurish feel, with flat dialog and trimmed stories that crop out he more difficult scenes to shoot, instead having characters describe the events as having occurred off-screen. Each major character has been altered pretty heavily away from their original personality/disposition. The world presented in the netlifx series feels smaller and less significant, without any of the snarky humor or wit you'd expect -- lifeless and weirdly sanitized.
Watching the Netflix adaptation should be approached as an alternative universe narrative where pivotal events don't happen, or resolve with opposite results. Antagonists and protagonists have been shuffled seemingly at random so it's hard to determine where things are now headed. This alone wouldn't normally be an issue, as no book survives contact with the screen, but so far the story feels incoherent and the directing style seems an attempt to intentionally confuse. And the dialog.. just mute it and wait for the fight scenes.
