Clunky controls and a dated inventory system are somewhat standard in horror games, so my biggest complaint is how the game completely fails to maintain any sort of tension. There are so many comedic parts throughout the game, that at times, I forgot I was even playing a horror game. The other thing that makes it fail it's horror aesthetic is it's major gameplay feature, the Mind Space (or it's counterpart the Writer's Room when you're playing as Alan). The mind space is not only immersion breaking, but tedious and unhelpful. While the story itself is solid and very cool, I've enjoyed the silly and comedic bits the most, which is not exactly glowing praise for a horror game. You can't break tension you didn't build in the first place.
6/10, certainly not game of the year material
