I went to the theater to watch this with my 13 year old daughter since she always loved the Barbie series. I came out of the theater very disappointed. First reason, is that the movie says it is PG-13. Then during the movie there were references that were a bit too adult rated for my child at least. Also there were many references and story twists that my daughter just didn’t understand what was happening with the plot of the story. I was really hoping to like this movie, that if it was as good as the hype said it was, it would of been a movie that is put on every few years so it’s not forgotten, or to even buy the DVD of it. This movie just truly felt more like a one big gender war between the Kens and the Barbies. The one thing that my daughter can’t stop talking about is Ryan Gosling, which I understand why (because of his body) but definitely not something I really want my 13 year old daughter to only be noticing compared to the rest of the stuff that was in the movie. I could also say in my opinion, that this movie also felt like a big thirst trap for underaged girls (given that it is rated PG-13) with all of the Ken’s bodies idolized throughout the entire film.
