I have loved this show since the very start. Its animation is awesome, the story is great, and it's great at incorporating many diverse themes. TDP, in my opinion, should become a staple show for anyone who loves fantastic storytelling, beautiful artwork, and great acting. I've looked at the one-star reviews and most of them say that either it's "too woke" or that season 4 and onwards is a letdown. Although seasons 1-3 will always be my favorites (mostly because I grew up with them), I adore the rest (and they introduced my favorite character). As for the homophobic, bigoted ideas, chill. No one is trying to force the "gay agenda" onto your kids. It's a kids/teens show that incorporates queer themes and romances, so what? As a queer teen myself, I think the show can serve as a great exposition to LGBTQ+ people for kids. It's not "too woke". It's how TV is going to be from now on, and if you don't like it you can go live in the woods with no screens.
I think my only problem with the show is it's rating of TV-Y7. For some young viewers, the dark magic system could be disturbing as it involves killing things. Other than that, the earlier seasons are pretty fine. There's some kissing, but I've seen more in other shows for young audiences, so what's the problem?
The later seasons were meant to age with their audiences, so they're a lot darker. There is blood and violence and honestly some scary scenes for seven-year-olds. I'd say the best audiences for this show are nine and up, and a rating of PG would be better.
Other than that, this show is splendid. It's a fantastical fantasy adventure in a realm with great worldbuilding, compelling characters, and SCOTTISH ELVES. Ignore the 1-star reviewers, they're bigoted weirdos that get worked up at a kids show. It's a great watch for families, kids, and basement-dwelling fantasy lovers alike.
I hope you can enjoy this awesome show as much as I continue to do.
